Winter Holidays in Canmore & Banff
The Christmas and winter holidays are a very special time in Canmore and Banff. If you’re a local resident or just visiting, here are some of our favourite ideas for this December 2022.
Events
In Search of Christmas Spirit by Banff Lake Louise and Carter Ryan – you can book the tickets online. This is a super fun and magical experience and then go for dinner in Banff.

NYE – The town of Canmore has two sets of fireworks usually. There is a party on the skating pond downtown with early fireworks and then the big show at midnight.
Festival of Trees - the Rotary Club puts on this event at the Malcolm.
At Arts Place - A Stoney Christmas in Canmore. Join the Smalleyes Family as they return to artsPlace to present their re-imagined Christmas tale featuring traditional Indigenous dance, song and storytelling. A Bow Valley holiday tradition that is perfect for the whole family!
Eating Out and Other Things
Chris’ two favourite new restaurants in the Bow Valley are:
Ankor – this is a relatively new spot in Canmore. It is fine dining and the tasting menu is awesome!
Bluebird – just opened this fall this is another amazing spot in Banff by the Banff Hospitality Collective.
If there is a cold snap, here are some places to take the family:
- CanGOLF in Canmore, Alberta
- High Rollers Banff
- Axe Throwing Canmore
Chris Vincent’s new favourite thing:
I finally broke down and bought a pair of Lenz heated socks at the end of the ski season last year. These are a game changer!!! My feet have been at the perfect temperature every day of skiing so far this year. Strides Canmore, Outside Bike and Ski, and Chateau Mountain Sports all carry the Lenz’s.
